One of my favorite things about this painting adventure has been getting to know the Client behind the creation. The reasons why they ordered. When I started I just thought that I would be painting something that a Client liked in the way of movies, music, etc. As time has gone on, however, it has become clear to me that these themes mean something. With that in mind, I thought it would be fun to learn a little more about the Client and the Creation, and who better to start this off with than Leslie Gelber.
Leslie is an incredibly talented artist and self professed designer of all things fashion, who also happens to be my aunt (lucky me!). She came to me with an idea for a creation that is true to her originality and fun spirit, a denim apron (who knew these even existed? So fun!) to be painted.
She asked for it to be painted with some vintage teacups, miniature silverware, and dolls that have meant a lot to her over the years. Read on to find out a little more about Leslie and her Creation:
- How did you find ACC? What made you want to order a creation?
“Abby’s artistic talent moves me deeply. I am lucky to be not only her auntie, but a dear friend. I’ve been able to watch her take off with putting her artistic talent together with her entrepreneurial skills. I knew right away I wanted to be on her waiting list to add her art to my life. The fact you can give her your desired theme and then she brings your wish to reality, is truly amazing.”
- How did you come up with your theme for your Creation? What does this theme mean to you (is there a story behind it? Is it something that means a lot to you or just something that you like the look of?)?
The theme for my ACC painted apron coincides with a fashion line I am creating. The apron will accessorize a garment, kind of like icing on the cake. The dolls and dishes Abby will paint on the apron are part of a story I wrote years ago.
The story is about a little girl finding a trunk full of textiles and children’s toys in an attic.
Wearing your story is very meaningful to me. And knowing Abby will paint that story on whatever surface I wish, is even more meaningful.
So excited to get this apron underway. And big thanks to Leslie for trusting me to bring her vision to life. You are VERY lucky to have Leslie as an aunt. I attended the same DOL workshop as her a few years ago and her energy is a delight to be around. Inspiring. The client and the creation will be fun to follow.
Lucky indeed. I have heard her workshops are amazing, and you are right, her energy is nothing less than inspiring. :). Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate you checking my site out! Be Well.
